THE NEW BARNEGAT BRANCH RAIL TRAIL
The new Barnegat Branch Rail Trail Bikeway project will have the ability to carry bicyclists and pedestrians along the 15.6-mile former Jersey Central rail line. Successful completion of the project will enable the Barnegat Branch Trail to join the other 43 existing and proposed rail-trail projects across New Jersey.

There will be three phases of the project. Phase 1 will stretch from Bay Avenue in Barnegat north to Country Lane in Waretown. The first part of Phase 1 will connect Bay Avenue to the Pancoast Road in Waretown (2.7 miles) in 2007 while the last half-mile to Country Lane (0.5 miles) will be completed in 2008 pending funding...                                                                                                                                       More >

Join The Lacey Rail-Trail Environmental Committee for our 2nd Annual "American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® Celebration!

Meet us on Saturday, June 6th, 10:00 a.m. on the Barnegat Branch Trail at Burr Street in Barnegat (off Route 9). Hike or bike the trail through Waretown.

Our Goal this year is to introduce 100 new people to the trail and its health benefits; to continue building public support for extending the trail; and to preventing the development of a roadway project in LaceyTownship that will adversely affect your trail.

The first 25 people to register and attend the event will receive a free gift, compliments of the Lacey Rail-Trail Environmental Committee....

PHASE II AND THE FUTURE
The Phase II of the Barnegat Branch Rail Trail is complete and spans approximately 1.1 miles from Pancoast Road to Route 532 (Wells Mills Road) in Ocean Township. This phase includes the future 1.65-acre trailhead site at Country Lane in Waretown, which the County acquired in November 2006. Planning and site design has begun for this site, which will have parking, restrooms, an informational kiosk, and other amenities.

The Barnegat Branch Trail project team is actively planning for the next phase of the trail (Phase III): 1.3 miles from Cedar Creek (Dudley Park) to Serpentine Dr. (Berkeley Twp) - construction 2009, pending State grant application.
